This post series is going to deal with four places in the scriptures where we are warned to “let no one deceive you“.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU PRACTICE
1st John 3:7
Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous.
Most prevalent in our age is this belief that you can somehow have an imparted righteousness in you while continuing to practice unrighteousness. This is simply not true. “Let no one deceive you”, you are what you practice, either righteousness, which leads to life, or unrighteousness, which leads to death.
In the scriptures, the revelation of the new nature that we have in Christ through His work in creating in us the new creation is a very clear revelation of a new and righteous nature. No where does the Bible teach that we will become invulnerable to temptation, rather, it teaches that our nature and desires will be radically and supernaturally transformed and that, for the first time in the history of fallen mankind, God has equipped us with everything necessary to walk in the Light through Christ Jesus our Lord.
This deception that our age has bought into wholesale is most devastating because it has blinded this world to the promise of the new creation in Christ Jesus.
Most people that I talk to do not even know that it is expected of them that they should walk righteously, in fact, they have been deceived into thinking that the Bible teaches that it is a bad thing if we try to teach people to walk righteously!
The church shows great patience and tolerance to an unbeliever that walks in the doors and shares his testimony about how he has overcome personal trials in his life and become successful, but is disgusted by a brother that would dare to teach people to obey all that Jesus has commanded (Matthew 28:20).
What I want to ask you is “do you know what righteousness is and practice it?”
My spirit is greatly grieved because so many who teach from the above passage use it to teach a pharisaic righteousness- a righteousness that is of the flesh and exalts the flesh and its pride.
Jesus taught on righteousness in Matthew 5-7, the Spirit reveals it by its fruits in Galatians 5:22, and the WORD OF TRUTH reveals it from everlasting to everlasting. Do you know and practice?
CLOSING REMARKS TO THIS SERIES
This series has been on four basic deceptions prevalent in our age; I hope that even just one among you may feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit to draw closer unto God and learn from the Word of Truth to stand firm against the deceptions of the enemy in this present age.
Some of the words in this series have been harsh, I am fully aware of that, but I assure you from the bottom of my heart that they are meant to firmly exhort you in love. Sometimes, when people have fallen into a deep slumber, it takes a firm hand to wake them up in time to flee a burning building. And that is precisely where many people in the world find themselves- a burning building- and they find themselves slumbering in a burning building because they have believed the lies of the enemy!
May God grant grace and mercy to all His children and lead us in truth all the days of our life!
