This series is going to deal with four places in the scriptures where we are warned to “let no one deceive you“.
WRATH COMES AGAINST DISOBEDIENCE
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
This is the first deception that Satan used against Eve in the garden when he came to her and enticed her to take the forbidden fruit saying, “you surely will not die”. See, Satan’s first deception was that God would not fulfill the wrath that He had warned would be fulfilled if we disobey Him.
Adam and Eve did eat of the fruit (obviously) and became sons of disobedience. Their offspring were likewise sons of disobedience (for everything produces after its own kind- Gen 1:11-13) because they followed in the ways of their own nature.
How many times have you heard someone argue with eloquent wisdom and spectacular logic that the wrath of God will not come against the children of disobedience?
Now through Seed of obedience that is Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:8) we have become obedient from the heart to the Truth by which we were delivered, just as Paul said,
“16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? 17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.” ~Romans 6:16-17
Have you become obedient from the heart to the Truth and a slave of righteousness? Do you know that all those who are in disobedience to Christ will perish? Or have you believed the lie that says God will not surely punish disobedience?
You might say “well surely he is talking about ‘big’ things like murder or homosexuality, right?”
But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. For this you know with certainty, that n o immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
You might say, “wait, back up; did Paul really just include things like “coarse jesting” and “Silly talk” in the list of things for which the wrath of God will fall upon the sons of disobedience?” You might also say, “how can that be? All my church friends and even my pastor do these things every day!”
The lie of our generation not only denies God’s wrath upon disobedience, but it has even corrupted our understanding of what constitutes disobedience! Woe to the generation that believes this lie and does not repent for God’s wrath will overtake them by surprise like a thief in the night!
It is one of my deepest prayers that the heart of the new creation be manifested in the Church and the Lord’s ministers would stand up to teach the children to “obey all that [Jesus] has commanded” (Matthew 28:20).
And if you are a minister and you’re reading this here today, know this: if you do not warn this generation that God’s wrath will fall upon disobedience and teach them to obey all that Jesus has commanded, then this generation will perish and their blood will be demanded upon your account as well (Ezekiel 33:7-9).
Do not be deceived with empty words…
