Gospel: Simplicity & Power

Gospel: Simplicity & Power

The gospel is elegant in its simplicity and piercing in its power!  There’s not a corner of the human soul that the gospel does not pierce, and there’s no mind that the gospel cannot humble.

The power of the gospel is its unique ability to reveal Christ to the man that the man’s soul may be utterly changed through Christ!

If we could explore the deepest depths of the gospel, but were unchanged by the gospel, or if we could sore above the highest heights of the gospel, but Christ were not revealed to us, then we would be as the ground that soaked up all the rain waters but bore forth briers and thistles- near unto being accursed!

The Gospel Message: plain & simple

Here is the simple message of the gospel:

This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light and in Him there is no darkness at all.  If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.  If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” ~1 John 1:5-9

What can be simpler than this?

The gospel extols the glories and virtue of God and our desperate need of His saving mercy.  He is the Father of Light, and we were like children lost in the darkness.  Like a liar caught red-faced is anyone who walks in the darkness and yet claims to walk in fellowship with the Father of Lights, but the humble in heart God cleanses from sin and restores by the blood of Jesus Christ.

I don’t know when it happened, but somehow we allowed another gospel to be preached that accommodates darkness rather than driving it away in truth.  Repentance, sanctification, true grace and true righteousness only come from the gospel that reveals Christ to the sinner that He might make sinners into living saints!  I say flee from any other gospel!

What this gospel preaches is that God is incompatible with darkness, but has mercy on the humble who confess their sins.  It does not preach that God tolerates liars, nor that He accepts those who deceive themselves, but says that He has fellowship with those who walk in the light.

The gospel reveals Christ to us so that He can restore us to fellowship with God.  It does not change God to suit us.

The gospel unambiguously exposes the sin of man and declares a new and living hope in Christ to come!

It is the gospel that sounds out from Jesus’ words;

The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” ~Mark 1:15

“The Day” has come!  The time is here!  God’s Kingdom is here and “Today” is the day of salvation!  The gospel declares repentance in the name of Jesus Christ.

Conclusions:

There is hope for the sinner; real hope.  Christ is here to show you the way of life and everlasting fellowship with the Father.  You do not have to be bound in your sins and drawn away to death in chains of guilt and fear.  If you will but humble yourself before God and confess your sins to Him, ask Him for forgiveness of your sins, He is faithful to forgive you and show you a new way of life in true righteousness and holiness.
